The client requried a public toilet block to replace an already existing but tired looking toilet block.
A 1 bay Modular Toilet block was built out of steel box sections to make it structurally sound and clad either side, capped with solid oak to match the external door.
A spacious, structurally sound annex that is sympathetic to the surrounding areas provides additional space for multi-purpose use., comprising 1 x gents urinal, 3 x gender neutral facilities with baby change units, 1 x disabled toilet with baby change unit, 1 x motorhome gender neutral facility with baby change unit and 1 x service room.
Due to the area having won the prestigious ‘Most Beautiful Beach 2018’ award, expectations for the toilet block were very high. Popular with walkers and families, these facilities needed to be child-friendly, accessible and easy to keep clean. The external walls are clad in timber from sustainable sources, which are treated to have a 30 year out of ground guarantee against rot and fungal decay. Another advantage of this cladding is that it suits the surrounding landscape and ensures the unit doesn’t spoil the view.
The frame of the toilet block installation in Fife is a strong steel structure, to stand firm against the wind blowing off the sea. The toilet floors were fitted with a commercial grade slip resistant vinyl covering which has a great safety record, particularly in units such as this where large quantities of sand may be brought in on shoes and potentially cause the floor to be slippery.
The steel external doors were made to the customer’s specifications and fitted with obscured glass panels. These let the light in, but still provide privacy.
